North Myrtle Beach dad arrested after child found to have broken ribs, brain bleed
A North Myrtle Beach man has been charged with injuring his 2-month-old child, who was discovered to have broken ribs and a brain bleed at a hospital.
Gavin Tyler Bell, 22, was arrested by North Myrtle Beach Police for unlawful conduct toward a child.
Officers responded to a hospital emergency room on April 10 in reference to a possible child abuse case. When the officer arrived, the child had been airlifted to MUSC because of the severity of her injuries, according to an incident report.
The mother told the officer that on March 31 the infant had a seizure and stopped breathing. The father, Bell, administered CPR and then the child was taken to the ER, where she was later discharged. On April 8, the child again had similar seizure activity but she did not stop breathing. Then on April 10 the child began gasping for breath and the parents took her to the ER, where staff discovered the baby had broken ribs and a brain bleed which was due to someone shaking the baby, the report said.
Bell was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on April 16 where he was later released on a $30,000 bond.
