Bicyclist injured during Garden City Beach area hit-and-run, authorities investigating
A reportedly homeless man was injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle Saturday night on U.S. 17 Business in the Garden City area, according to Capt. Jerry Howerton, with Murrells Inlet-Garden City Beach Fire Department.
The man was taken from the crash scene to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in “very serious condition” after the incident happened about 11 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 17 Business, near the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, Howerton said.
The man did not have identification on him at the time of the incident, authorities said.
Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said witnesses on the scene said the driver of a Jeep with possibly an out-of-state license plate could be responsible for the incident.
Collins and Howerton both said Wednesday they had not received any updates on the victim’s condition.
The SCHP is actively investigating the incident, Collins said.
