Conway man tries to shoot officers during early morning standoff, police say
A Conway man is accused of shooting at police officers Wednesday during a nearly seven-hour standoff inside a home.
A Horry County Police officer responded to a home on Morris Road in Conway about midnight for a complaint of gun shots coming from the residence, according to an incident report.
Officers made contact with Andrew Joseph Wiseman, asking him to stop shooting, the report said. Wiseman then allegedly made comments to officers “to get off his property or he will shoot them,” the report said. Wiseman then shot toward the area where officers were located, the report said.
Police shut down traffic on Morris Road, that is off Highway 905, and evacuated residents from nearby homes as a precaution, according to a Facebook post.
Officers set up a perimeter around the home where Wiseman allegedly continued to shoot his firearms. Wiseman was told through a PA system that he was under arrest, but he did not come out of the home, the report said. Wiseman continued shooting.
SWAT, K-9 units and the negotiations team were called in, the report said. Wiseman was eventually taken into custody at 6:35 a.m. after nearly seven hours.
Wiseman, 45, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. His arrest warrant states that he was attempting to unlawfully injure law enforcement.
Wiseman was booked into J. Reuben Long on March 4 where he remains without bond.
