Myrtle Beach police arrested a 41-year-old woman early Tuesday after a 52-year-old man reported she held a knife to a baby and cut him with it, according to a police report.

Ella Martha Rush, 41, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and second-degree domestic violence after officers were called about 2 a.m. Tuesday to 803 13th Ave. S. for the incident, police said.

When an officer arrived he was met by a young child, who said her mother was being hurt, according to the report. The officer found the couple inside the kitchen and the man was holding Rush down on the floor while she held a baby.

The man told police that Rush came to the home about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to pick up some of her belongings and that she began to talk about how she had a warrant for her arrest from a previous domestic violence incident, according to the report. The victim said Rush took a knife from the top of the television, held it to the baby’s neck and threatened him.

The man said Rush cut him with the knife and they both fell to the ground during the struggle, according to the report. The man said he was able to call 911 during the incident.

Rush told police that the man got upset because she would not have sexual relations with him and he wanted to hurt her so she held the baby to protect herself, according to the report. Rush said the man punched her five or six times.

EMS workers found no signs of visible injuries on Rush except for a scratch to her leg that they suspected was caused when the kitchen table shattered, according to the report. The man had a scratch on him where he said Rush cut him.

The couple have been together for about three years, according to the report. The children were placed in protective custody and Rush was taken to a local hospital.
