Man tries to run over SC officer, police say. Attempted murder one of many charges

A man was arrested in Horry County after trying to run over a police officer, according to a SCHP official.

A man was arrested in Horry County Saturday after trying to run over an officer, according to a South Carolina Highway Patrol official.

Cassidy Michael Gregory Harding, 38, was involved in a vehicle stop and pursuit over the weekend, and tried to run over an officer standing outside his vehicle before being apprehended, according to SCHP Cpl. David Jones.

Harding remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail. He faces one count of attempted murder for trying to run over the officer, as well as one count of failure to appear, one count of speeding between 15 and 25 mph over the speed limit, one count of failure to stop for a blue light, one count of operating an uninsured motor vehicle — first offense, one count of use of a license plate on vehicle other than vehicle for which plate was issued, one count of resisting arrest and one count of violation of probation.

The Sun News has requested the incident report and arrest warrant related to the event.

It is unclear where the pursuit took place. It is also unclear if the officer was with highway patrol.

No further information has been made available.
