A man was fatally shot while staying at a North Myrtle Beach hotel over the weekend, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office .

Thomas Geddings, 41, of Bishopville, died after being shot Saturday while staying at 2100 N. Ocean Blvd in North Myrtle Beach, according to an email sent Monday by Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Wofford Brown Webb II, 46, also of Bishopville, admitted at the scene to shooting Geddings, according to police reports.

The address where the incident took place is the location of the Wyndham Towers Grove hotel. The shooting took place at about 1:10 a.m., according to Willard.

When police arrived at the scene in response to the reported shooting, Webb opened the door and was asked “Who shot him?” to which he answered, “I did,” according to police reports. Officers then entered the back bedroom of the scene and found Geddings on the ground.

A 9mm handgun was on the bed nearby.

Webb’s son told police that prior to the shooting, Geddings and Webb had been in an argument, according to the arrest warrant. Webb then retrieved the gun and announced that he was going to kill everyone, according to records of the witness account.

Geddings was able to take the gun from Webb, remove the magazine and unload it, but Webb returned to his room to retrieve another magazine and fatally shot Geddings, according to the arrest warrant.

Hearing the gunshot, a witness went into the room to investigate, and Webb advised that he call 911, according to the incident report. The witness observed Geddings on the ground in the back room unconscious.

Webb remains in the J Reuben Long Detention Center without bond. He faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The North Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating the shooting as a homicide, according to Willard’s email.
