A man with an explosive device threatens to blow up victim at Myrtle Beach motel
A man who police say had a makeshift explosive device, as well as a shotgun and pistol, threatened a victim at a Myrtle Beach motel, forcing them inside his vehicle.
Michael Ray Thompson, 48, showed up at the Calypso Inn, 101 Flagg St., at 5:39 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2025, and pointed a firearm at the victim, ordering them to get into his vehicle, a Myrtle Beach Police arrest warrant says.
Thompson allegedly told the victim, “If you get out of the car, I will kill you,” according to an incident report.
The victim knew Thompson as a maintenance man at the motel, the report said.
The victim was not allowed to leave the vehicle and Thompson allegedly made verbal threats against him and his property, the warrant said.
The victim eventually was able to get away and run toward the beach.
Thompson was charged with threatening to kill or injure a person or destroy property with a bomb, kidnapping, pointing and presenting firearms at a person and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Thompson was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Sept. 29, 2025, where he remained on a $110,000 bond.
