Man shot in Myrtle Beach hotel room after refusing to pay for sex, police say
A shooting at an Ocean Boulevard hotel injured one person in Myrtle Beach Thursday morning, Myrtle Beach Police said in a social media post.
The shooting occurred after a woman demanded money for sex, according to an arrest warrant.
Kelsey Lynn Miller, 29, was arrested Thursday by Myrtle Beach Police on charges of prostitution, attempted murder, posession of a weapon during a violent crime and several drug charges.
Around 3:38 a.m., officers responded to gunshots detected by ShotSpotter in the 1000 block of South Ocean Boulevard, near the Polynesian Oceanfront Hotel.
When officers canvassed the area, they found one person injured with a gunshot wound, according to the post. The victim had an “improvised tourniquet” on his upper left arm and blood on his hands, and stated that he had been shot, according to the incident report.
That person was taken to the hospital for their injuries.
As officers investigated the incident, they found that the shooting did not occur where the person was found, the post said.
A search warrant was served for the area of 1001 S. Ocean Blvd., where the hotel is located, and two people were taken into custody.
According to the arrest warrant, Miller met up with the victim through Reddit, then TeleGram and then through text, eventually meeting the victim at a hotel room at the Polynesian hotel.
Inside the room, Miller allegedly asked the victim, “Where is my money?” When the victim said he didn’t have any money and that he would not pay for sex, Miller said that “If you do not give me my money, I’ll go get my man,” the warrant said.
The victim then turned to leave and Miller allegedly shot the person, the warrant said.
Drugs were also found in the room where Miller had apparently been staying, the warrant said.
Miller was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center where she remained Friday.
