Man murders Horry County mother, injures daughter in shooting, court says
An Aynor man will serve decades in prison for the 2023 shooting that killed an Horry County mother and injured her daughter.
Dimik Stevenson, 20, was sentenced on Thursday to two 30-year prison terms for murder and attempted murder in the deadly shooting, the Horry County Solicitor’s Office announced. Stevenson shot and killed Sadiyya Salim, a mother of three girls, in May 2023. He also injured one of her daughters in the shooting.
The charge of attempted murder carries a maximum sentence of 30 years, and the charge of murder carries a minimum sentence of 30 years that must be served day by day, meaning Stevenson will not be eligible for parole, according to the solicitor’s office.
“The State appreciates that the defendant accepted responsibility for his role in this tragic killing,” Mary-Ellen Walter, the senior assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case, said in a statement after Tuesday’s hearing. “A special thanks goes to the Horry County Police Department, especially Detective Sean Wydra, for their work on this investigation.”
Stevenson’s sentencing was delayed until Thursday to allow victims the opportunity to appear and speak at the sentencing.
Hayley Taylor, one of Stevenson’s co-defendants, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder on Thursday. She was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The other co-defendant, Elijah Hebert, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder last year, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
