A Longs woman has been accused of physically abusing an elderly person she cared for, including hitting her in the head with a used bed pan.

Tammy Marie Whitmore, 62, was charged by Horry County Police with wilful abuse of a vulnerable adult on Aug. 11, 2025.

Whitmore is the caregiver of the 88-year-old blind victim and allegedly abused the woman at the home on Andorra Street where they both lived, an arrest warrant said.

The victim told police on June 27, 2025, that Whitmore would allegedly cause her to fall down by manipulating her walker, kick her, hit her in the head with the bed pan, violently shake her head and pinch her. The victim’s statement was backed up by numerous injuries on her body and statements from home care personnel, the warrant said.

Police were called to the home after a home health care provider reported finding bruises of various sizes on the victim, telling police that the victim was being abused by Whitmore.

The victim told police that the abuse had been going on for a couple of months.
