SC man pretended to be DoorDash delivery man when he shot, killed rival
A man has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to decades in prison for his role in a deadly 2022 Conway shooting.
Joe Detrell Gause, 33, of Loris, pleaded guilty to murder on Monday, according to a press release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
The guilty plea came a week before Gause was set to stand trial on the charges, the release said.
Gause was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the shooting death of Brandon Robinson, 42, who was killed in his Conway home in December 2022.
“While no sentence will ever be long enough to account for the death of a loved one, we do hope this outcome brings Mr. Robinson’s family a sense of closure,” said Elizabeth Bryant, an assistant Horry County solicitor, in a statement.
Murder can carry a sentence of 30 years to life in prison, according to the release.
Robinson was at his residence with Gause’s ex-girlfriend on Forest Loop Road the night of the shooting, the release said. Gause had followed the woman to Robinson’s home. Gause approached the home, announcing himself as a DoorDash delivery driver, the release states.
When Robinson approached the door, Gause fired through the door and struck Robinson at least four times before fleeing the scene. The female victim “immediately” identified Gause as the shooter to emergency personnel when they arrived, the release says.
Gause had originally been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, The Sun News previously reported. Arrest warrants had accused him of committing the murder with “malice aforethought.”
