Man with 5 bombs, made ‘concerning’ remarks about Myrtle Beach campground, police say
A Myrtle Beach man has been arrested for having five pipe bombs in a Carolina Forest storage unit and in a garage.
It’s unclear what the man was planning to do with the bombs, but an Horry County Police report stated he made “concerning” remarks to a co-worker at Lakewood Campgrounds.
Jeremy Vickery, 40, was charged with possession of destructive or explosive devices that could cause injury or death.
Police had responded to Bayhill Street on July 15 after a woman reported finding items belonging to Vickery that appeared to be a bomb.
The woman told police that she had picked up Vickery’s items from Lakewood campground on July 13 after he had been arrested for breach of trust and obtaining property under false tokens.
An employee had dropped off a folding table at her home because she could not fit it into her vehicle. While there, the employee told the woman about comments Vickery had made when he first started working at Lakewood two months ago, the report said. The employee reported the comments to police.
It is not known what Vickery said, as that information was redacted from the police report.
As the woman was placing Vickery’s items in a pile in her garage, she noticed a cooler bag full of break-in kits, gloves, a mask, suppressors and what appeared to be a bomb, the report said. Police determined that the bag did contain a pipe bomb.
During the police the investigation, it was found that Vickery had rented two storage units at Storage Rentals of America off of U.S. 501. In the units, police found five hollow tubes with “energetic materials with wires inserted to function the device,” an arrest warrant said.
The incendiary devices were confirmed to have the ability to detonate, causing injury or death.
Vickery remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $7,500 bond.
