Baby placed on ventilator after head injuries, SC police say. 2 charged in abuse
Two people have been charged with causing injuries to an infant, resulting in the child being placed on a ventilator, unable to breathe on its own.
When Horry County Police officers arrived at Second Avenue in Surfside Beach, they found a baby in cardiac arrest under “suspicious circumstances,” according to an incident report.
The child was transported to the hospital on June 20, 2025, with injuries consistent with non-accidental head trauma, according to an arrest warrant. The child had old and new injuries and was flown to Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in Charleston where he remains incapacitated and on a ventilator, the arrest warrant said.
Courtney Frimml, 25, and Jason Beach, 25, both of Surfside Beach, were arrested Monday and charged with contributing to the injuries of the child.
Beach was charged with abuse to inflict great bodily injury on a child. Frimml was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.
The new injuries to the boy occurred during the time he was in the custody and care of Frimml and Beach, the warrant said.
It is unclear what relationship Beach and Frimml have to the child.
Frimml confronts Beach in a text message on May 29 about “shaken baby syndrome,” the warrant said. However, Frimml continued to allow Beach to look after the child alone for three weeks after the text, placing the child “at unreasonable risk of harm,” the warrant said.
Both Beach and Frimml remain in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
