A shooting at Peaches Corner in downtown Myrtle Beach left one person dead and one person injured.

Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard confirmed on Monday morning that the person killed in the shooting was 18-year-old Grayson Meyers.

Meyers lived in Myrtle Beach.

According to the Horry County Public Index, Meyers had been charged with trespassing earlier this year, and had also been charged with kidnapping, which was dismissed, and assault and battery first degree last year, to which he pled guilty. The latter two charges were in connection with a Conway-area party at which a minor was assaulted, and Meyers was arrested alongside three others involved in the incident.

A 17-year-old Conway resident, Evony McCray, an employee of Peaches Corner, was booked into J. Reuben Long detention center on Saturday as the suspected shooter. McCray is being charged with murder in the case, along with assault of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful possession of a gun and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

A $250,000 bail has been set for each of the latter two charges, but no bail has been set for the murder or aggravated assault charges. McCray is being tried as an adult in this case.

No previous charges are shown in the Horry County Public Index for McCray.

When asked at a press conference on Saturday whether Meyers also had a weapon during the incident, police said this information is part of the ongoing investigation.

A fundraiser page has been put up to support Meyers’ mother, Crystal Sparkman, who was the sole caregiver for Meyers and three other children, according to the fundraiser description.

The fundraiser hopes to raise money for Meyers’ burial, which it says will take place on July 8th. As of Monday morning $2,827 has already been raised.

An obituary for Meyers describes him as “warm, caring, and always ready to share a smile.”

The other person shot during the incident was outside in the crosswalk and suffered a non-life-threatening injury, police said. No further information has been made available about the second victim.

The Sun News has requested police reports and arrest warrants from the incident for more information.
