Hotel housekeeper arrested in connection with theft and drugs after money missing from guest’s room
Police said a housekeeper was arrested in connection with theft and drugs after a hotel guest reported money missing from his room.
Myrtle Beach police were called about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to the Blu Atlantic Oceanfront Hotel at 1203 S. Ocean Blvd. where a 38-year-old man told police he noticed $800 was missing from his room after going to the beach for about an hour, authorities said.
Police said Ykashi Wandell Brooks, 25, who is listed as a housekeeper at the hotel in the incident report, admitted to taking $500, which she returned to the victim.
Brooks was arrested and charged with petit larceny, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance, according to jail records.
Authorities said they found a plastic bag of marijuana in Brooks’ purse during the arrest and found a prescription pill bottle containing five white pills. Police said the bottle did not belong to Brooks, and one of the pills was identified as the prescription painkiller, Hydrocodone.
Once at the Myrtle Beach Jail, a staff member found $300 in the sole of Brooks’ shoe, and police said Brooks told them it did belong to the victim.
Brooks was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on $1,401 bond Wednesday morning, according to jail records.
