An aide to an autistic child at a Myrtle Beach area childcare center has been arrested after allegedly abusing the student.

Ashley Caroline Cribb, 31, of Johnsonville, was charged by Horry County Police on Friday with unlawfully placing a child at risk or harm, according to an arrest warrant.

An officer was dispatched to The Learning Station, 3480 McCormick Road, on May 22, 2025, to a report of abuse, a police report said.

An email statement from The Learning Station said that Cribb is not an employee at the child care center and was placed at the McCormick Road location by a third-party provider by the child’s family.

“The safety and well-being of every child in our care is, and always will be, our highest priority,” the statement said. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and are committed to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and trustworthy environment for our families. We extend our support to the child and family during this difficult time and will continue working closely with all parties to ensure accountability and resolution.”

The officer was told that on May 20 and 21, 2025, Cribb was seen on video surveillance picking the child up by the arm and dragging them on the floor, the report said. The child, who has autism, has a provider from Breakthrough Behavioral Services to help with their transition in school, the report said.

Cribb was provided as an aide to the child from Monday through Friday from drop-off to pickup at the center, the report said.

The officer was provided video footage of the interactions.

The officer spoke by phone to Cribb, who stated that she and the child are always playing and that the child was physically attacking other students in the classroom, which prompted her to take the child out into the hallway, the report said.

Cribb told the officer she couldn’t recall when the alleged abuse occurred.

Cribb was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
