Man armed with knives holds up Myrtle Beach motel for cigarettes worth $10, police say
A man armed with knives attempted to take cigarettes at a Myrtle Beach motel, eventually barricading himself inside the building for more than two hours, police said.
Dale Michael McTaggart, 44, was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and assault on a police officer.
The incident happened at 6:41 p.m. May 31, 2025, at the Lazy G Motel and Apartments, 405 27th Ave. N., according to a Myrtle Beach Police arrest warrant.
Officers responded to the motel in reference to an armed robbery. The situation evolved into McTaggart barricading himself until about 8:46 p.m. before he was arrested.
No one was injured, the report said.
McTaggart was armed with two knives when he lunged at the victim in an attempt to take the cigarettes, which were valued at $10, the warrant said.
McTaggart also kicked an officer in the abdomen while being transported to a hospital for a medical clearance, the warrant said.
McTaggart remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
