After Myrtle Beach Police release Ocean Boulevard video, questions remain
A major updated has been provided on the deadly shooting in downtown Myrtle Beach, but some questions still remain.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department is actively investigating the mass shooting on April 26 in the downtown area of the beach and released a pre-recorded video update providing initial details 33 days after the shooting.
The pre-recorded video displayed dash cam footage from an officer’s vehicle.
John C. Barnett, a civil rights advocate who represents the surviving shooting victims was dissatisfied with the footage.
Barnett called the video a “poor presentation,” demanding that the Myrtle Beach Police Department release the body cam footage and enhance the audio of the recording released.
The Sun News reached out to the Myrtle Beach Police Department for answers about the Ocean Boulevard mass shooting as the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division continues to investigate the incident.
Myrtle Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Randolph Angotti wrote that the video footage released is the best and clearest angle of the incident.
“This is part of SLED’s active and ongoing investigation,” Angotti wrote in an email response to six of the eight questions The Sun News sent.
All answers to The Sun News’ questions involved the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s active and ongoing investigation.
Here are some of the questions not answered yet by investigations:
- What kind of guns were used?
- How many people were shot or injured by the shooter Jerrius Davis?
- How many people were shot or injured by Myrtle Beach Police Officers?
- Will the police department release additional footage from body cams or Real Time Crime Unit cameras?
The Sun News reported on May 12 about unanswered questions, these questions remain unanswered:
