The Sun News asked the Myrtle Beach area law enforcement for their crime stats for Black Bike Week. Only one had the data readily available for the public.
North Myrtle Beach Public Information Officer Patrick Wilkinson provided The Sun News a spreadsheet compiling the number of arrests, tickets, warnings, traffic accidents and calls for service for Memorial Day Weekend from 2014 to 2025.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department said it was working on getting stats for Memorial Day Weekend, Public Information Officer Randolph Angotti wrote in a text message.
The Horry County Police Department did not provide any data, but usually tallies it a few days after the event wraps up, Public Information Officer Mikayla Moskov wrote in a text message.
South Carolina Highway Patrol requires a Freedom of Information Request to access data on citations, Public Information Officer David Jones said.
This year’s Memorial Day weekend and Atlantic Beach Black Bike Week, or Black Bike Week, has been off to a hectic start with 12 people being hospitalized at a Bike Week concert and at least 10 being shot on a charter boat in Little River.
Myrtle Beach Area police might have been busier than many other Memorial Day weekends in the past, but North Myrtle Beach is the only department tracking arrests for sure.
North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach Police Departments confirmed they would have outside agencies coming down to bolster police presence, The Sun News reported.
What the data shows
North Myrtle Beach police have arrested the most people this year since 2014, according to data provided to The Sun News.
Both 2014 and 2025 saw 105 people arrested by North Myrtle Beach Police.
North Myrtle Beach police have also responded to more calls this year than any other year since 2014, receiving almost 1,900 calls, according to the data.
There is no consistent trend in the number of police calls or arrests, but Memorial Day 2025 has seen a noteworthy number of different incidents compared to the holiday weekend before 2020.
