No arrests made for Little River mass shooting, Horry County police say
Horry County Police have not arrested anyone in connection of the Little River mass shooting that injured 11 people.
On May 25, at about 9:15 p.m., a shooting occurred at a dock near Watson Avenue in Little River. As people exited a charter boat coming from Calabash, North Carolina, someone began shooting, The Sun News reported.
As of Tuesday, Horry County Police have not detained or made any arrests related to the party boat shooting, Horry County Police Chief Kris Leonhardt said at a press conference.
Police believe there was only one shooter and that the suspect was on the boat, Leonhardt said. There were 124 people on the vessel, with 120 attending a ticketed event and four crew members.
In total, 11 people went to the hospital, 10 with gunshot wounds, according to Horry County police. EMS brought eight people via ambulance and three more were driven in private cars to the hospital. As of Tuesday, only three people remain in the hospital.
The victims were mainly shot in their lower extremities. Police did not share what kind of firearm the shooter used.
There was a mix of vacationers and locals on the Hurricane boat. This has made it difficult to investigate as several witnesses are not in Horry County, Leonhardt said.
More than 50 police cars responded to the incident, with police vehicles lining Watson Avenue for several blocks.
It’s unclear who began the shooting or why it occurred. The suspects are still at large.
Horry County Fire Rescue originally responded to the incident for a head injury after a speaker fell on someone, said Horry County Fire Rescue Chief Joseph Tanner at the press conference.
