Myrtle Beach Walmart evacuated after teen uses stolen radio to make threat

A 19-year-old man used a stolen handheld radio to call in a bomb threat at a Myrtle Beach Walmart, causing the department store to be evacuated, according to a police report.

Garrett Wayne East was arrested and charged with making a bomb threat on May 7, 2025.

East called in the bomb threat at Walmart, 541 Seaboard St., about 5 p.m. on March 21, 2025, using a Motorola radio he stole from the store, according to the report. The radio was valued at $545.

The department store was evacuated as police searched for a bomb, the report said.

East remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
