Update: Shooting between roommates in rural Horry County kills 1. Alleged shooter named

A quarrel between roommates resulted in one person being shot and killed Saturday morning.

After getting into an argument, Anthony Chiu, 48, allegedly shot Charles Jones, 45, at their Bay View Drive home at about 6:50 a.m. Saturday, a police report from Horry County said. The two lived together in the Green Sea area, according to a release from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Jones died at the scene.

When police arrived to their home, they found a witness pacing outside while speaking on the phone, the report said. Inside the house, Chiu was holding Jones. Officers told the witness and Chiu to go outside but stay within their line of sight.

It’s unclear what Chiu and Jones fought about.

The criminal investigation department and crime scene investigator arrived and took over.

Horry County Police arrested Chiu for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, online bookings show. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail
