SC woman who drove drunk, killing dad on Father’s Day weekend, sentenced. What she got
A Little River woman was sentenced Tuesday for hitting and killing a man while driving drunk Father’s Day weekend in 2023.
Nancy Bishop, 63, was driving under the influence when she hit another car head-on along Robert Edge Parkway on June 18, 2023, according to a release from 15th Judicial Circuit office.
Thomas Brown, 41, was in the other car with his wife and three children.
The Longs man did not survive the crash and it left his wife in a wheelchair, The Sun News reported. His family and Bishop went to the hospital following the crash.
Judge David P. Caraker sentenced Bishop to 10 years in prison, the release said. She will need to serve at least 85% of her sentence.
Bishop turned herself in to police nearly two months after the crash because she had been in the hospital following the accident. She was charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death and driving under a suspended license. She had a suspended license for another DUI offense in Massachusetts.
Eye witnesses said they saw an open wine container and a cup with what appeared to be wine in the cup holder in Bishop’s car, The Sun News reported.
