Police respond to assault, find intoxicated victim with knife

Police said they found a 10-inch knife on a man who had been the victim of an assault Wednesday morning on Yaupon Drive, according to an incident report.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 9:05 a.m. to the Coastal Apartments on the 1500 block of Yaupon Drive in reference to the assault and said they found the 39-year-old victim who appeared to be highly intoxicated, police said.

The victim said he was knocking on one the apartment doors, looking for a friend who owed him money, when a man came out of a nearby apartment and allegedly attacked him after confronting him about knocking so loudly, authorities said.

Police said a pair of metal knuckles were found under a bush near the victim.

Authorities said that they couldn’t determine if anything was taken from the victim because he was so intoxicated.

The victim was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he told a nurse he had taken a prescription drug, police said.

No arrests had been made in connection with the assault as of Thursday morning.
