Horry County Schools elementary teacher arrested for having drugs on school property
An elementary teacher has been arrested for allegedly having cocaine at a school.
Aaron Musick, 50, was arrested Friday by Horry County Police for possessing a controlled substance on school property, according to Horry County Schools spokesperson Lisa Bourcier by email.
Musick is a teacher at Waterway Elementary in Little River, Bourcier said.
Staff observed concerning behavior and contacted law enforcement, which led to Musick’s arrest, Bourcier said.
School staff noticed that Musick was acting differently, including appearing disheveled, late on multiple occasions and being in an altered state of mind, according to an Horry County Police report. In addition, Musick had failed required tests for his position at the school, the report said.
After a search of Musick’s personal belongings in his office, including his desk, coats and his backpack, a vile with a “white powder” in the front pocket, the report said. There were also multiple prescription drugs with mismatched pills located within the bottles inside his desk, and a straw was found that had white in color, powdery substance.
Musick will not be allowed on any Horry County Schools campuses and was placed on administrative leave, she said. Musick resigned his position on Monday, Bourcier said.
Musick was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of distribute, sell, purchase or manufacture of crack cocaine near school and narcotics in schedule 1, LSD and schedule II (cocaine). He was released on March 9 after posting a $25,000 bond.
