Conway woman arrested for ‘abandoning’ child in freezing temps. Tells officers ‘good luck’
A Conway woman has been arrested for “abandoning” a child in 35-degree weather at a grocery store without a way back home.
Kenosha Joy Tyson, 35, was arrested for unlawful conduct toward a child after she told an Horry County Police officer “good luck” and hung up the phone when the officer asked for her to help find him a way back home, a police report said.
Officers were called to the Food Lion at 1903 Highway 544 in the Conway area at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check.
The juvenile told officers he had gotten a ride to the store from a friend and was supposed to get a ride back home from another friend but was unable to reach them, according to the report.
The victim did not have a working cell phone, and stated that he was unsure of the exact address of where he was currently residing because he had moved, the report said. The victim was able to provide a telephone number for Tyson, who answered the telephone on the third attempt from the officer.
Tyson then hung up the phone and refused further attempts for contact, a warrant said. The child didn’t have any other family or friends that he could call to come pick him up, the report said.
The temperatures at the time were just above freezing at the time the juvenile was located “with a high probability of winter weather forecasted for the overnight hours,” the report said.
Officers were able to gather additional information and using visual landmarks were able to locate the apartment building the child and Tyson were staying. It is unclear from the report what relation, if any, Tyson has to the child.
Tyson was not home at the time, the report said.
Tyson remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Friday on a $2,500 bond.
