Conway man shoots at police officer during traffic stop. Watch video that led to his arrest

A Conway man pleaded guilty to attempted murder after he shot at a police officer during a traffic stop.

Tywrell Jacob Alston, 20, was sentenced to 20 years in prison without parole eligibility, according to a release from the 15th Judicial Circuit office.

The evening of Dec. 29, 2022, police attempted to pull over a Jeep Cherokee driven by Alston. He kept driving for over a minute before pulling into his driveway along Forest Loop, the release said.

He then got out of the car and shot five times at a police cruiser driven by Conway Police Detective Nicholas Contino, according to the release. One round went through the vehicle’s open door and became lodged in the driver’s seat, while another broke the driver’s window.

Contino, who narrowly missed being shot, fired back at Alston.

Multiple shots hit Alston and the teenager needed to be hospitalized for life-threatening injuries, The Sun News previously reported.
