A 22-year-old woman told police she was “rudely woken” by an unknown man rubbing her crotch after falling asleep outside an Ocean Boulevard hotel, according to a police report.

Edward Tyreik Bush, 23, whose hometown was not listed, was charged with second-degree assault and battery on Tuesday, police said.

Bush is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $10,000 bond, according to jail records.

The victim said she was waiting for a friend about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Diplomat Hotel on 608 N. Ocean Blvd. and fell asleep in a stairwell, police said.

The victim told police she got “rudely woken by a black male rubbing her vagina through the outside of her pants,” according to the report. She also said Bush was trying to keep her quiet, and that she had never seen him before in her life.

Myrtle Beach police had been called about 8:35 a.m. to the Diplomat Hotel in connection with the incident and said they saw a man who matched the description given of the suspect by the victim near Seventh Avenue North heading toward a beach access.

Police detained Bush and said the victim then positively identified him as the man who assaulted her as she slept, authorities said.

Police said Bush told them the victim approached him and asked to use his cellphone. He said the victim called an unknown person about getting crack. Bush said after the victim finished making the call, she was cold so he put his arm around her and that was all that happened, police said.

Bush denied ever touching the victim’s crotch, authorities said.
