Myrtle Beach man guilty in girlfriend’s murder. He tried to cover up crime, court said

An Horry County judge sentenced a Myrtle Beach man to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend.

A jury found Charles William Murphy Jr., 56, guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime Wednesday evening, according to a release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Murphy will not be eligible for parole or supervised release.

Murphy shot his girlfriend Teresa Lischer, 58, with a shotgun in her home on May 7, 2022, the release said. He then spent the weekend trying to cover his tracks.

Horry County Police responded to Lischer’s home on May 9 after Murphy called 911 saying he found his girlfriend dead. He told police she kicked him out the previous Friday but RING footage showed Murphy leaving and entering the home multiple times over the weekend, according to the release.

Police tested Murphy’s clothes and found gunshot residue on them.
