A 49-year-old man is facing a litany of charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly crashed into three police vehicles while fleeing from officers.

It began on Dick Pond Road and Beaver Run Boulevard on Jan. 10, 2025, when Jeremy Michael Sammons, who was driving a 2014 Ford 150 pickup truck, collided with two vehicles, according to Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Pye said that Sammons fled the scene after hitting the vehicles and then traveled along Bridleford Drive, where he lives. State troopers were able to identify the vehicle and attempted to stop him at his home on that road.

Horry County Police assisted by trying to speak to the man, but when troopers arrived on the scene, Sammons again fled and struck the state police vehicle, Pye said.

As Sammons drives away, he hits a mailbox and Christmas decorations, according tot he report. “We are trying to get him to stop,” Pye said.

Sammons then crashes into two Horry Police Department vehicles and hits the state police vehicle again, Pye said.

Sammons is finally caught and arrested after he continues down the road and crashes into a fence.

There were no serious injuries and no one was transported to the hospital at the time, Pye said.

Sammons is charged with driving under the influence, two counts of attempted murder, assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, failure to stop for a blue light, duties of driver striking fixtures on a highway, three counts of hit and run and four counts of malicious injury to tree or house.

Sammons remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.

Because of the number of agencies involved, Horry County Police will investigate the state police crash and SCHP will investigate the HCPD crash, Pye said. Horry County Sheriff’s Department will investigate the incident as well.
