Horry County police investigate woman shot at while driving

A 43-year-old woman told Horry County police she was shot at while driving along a road near the Aynor area, authorities said.

The woman was taken to McLeod Loris Hospital and officers were called about 1:15 a.m. Saturday for the incident, according to the report. The woman told police she was driving about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Mill Pond Road in the Galivants Ferry area.

The woman said she drove by Secondary Highway 712 and a vehicle pulled out behind her, according to the report. She said the vehicle tailgated her when she crossed onto Joyner Swamp Road.

The victim said the vehicle then pulled up behind her like to pass, but someone inside began shooting at her vehicle, according to the report. The woman said she ducked down inside the car to avoid getting shot and her car ran into a ditch.

The woman said when she crashed she got out and ran into a nearby wooded area, according to the report. The woman said she stayed there for a while then began walking along Louisville Road when a man and woman offered her a ride to her daughter’s home.

The victim, who is from Raleigh, N.C., was on her way to see her daughter and grandchild when the shooting occurred and her daughter took her to the hospital, according to the report. The woman suffered injuries from the glass shattering in the vehicle, but was not shot.

Officers found the woman’s vehicle in a ditch and it had bullet holes in the driver’s side. Officers collected three shell casings from the road near the car.
