Myrtle Beach area man arrested after he points gun at kids playing hide and seek in yard
A Myrtle Beach area man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at a pair of children playing hide and seek in his neighborhood.
James Alan Blanchard, 64, was arrested on Dec. 14 by Horry County Police for two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
A group of three kids were playing hide and seek in the neighborhood along Bradford Circle on Saturday, according to the police report. The kids were walking back to one of their houses when the two began Army crawling on Blanchard’s yard.
Blanchard came out, pointed a hand gun at two of the children and told them to, “Get on your belly and do not move,” the report said.
After hearing the commotion, the third child came over and calmed the situation.
When police arrived, Blanchard admitted he pointed his gun at the minors. He said his neighbors had called him about the kids playing in the neighborhood and Blanchard decided to “take it upon himself to deal with it,” the report said.
Horry County Police arrested the man and brought him to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he was released on Sunday with a $10,000 bond. This happened in a neighborhood located along S.C. 544.
