SC man used bitcoin to buy child pornography on Darknet site. Here’s how he was caught
A Conway man will spend over six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse materials in a federal court, according to a release from the United States Department of Justice.
Laine Ormand Clark Jr., 33, used bitcoin, a form of online currency, to buy child pornography between March and August 2016. Homeland Security Investigations found over 10,000 photos of child sexual abuse materials and more than 1,200 videos on Clark’s electronic devices, according to a press release.
Clark was sentenced to 78 months in prison and will have court-ordered supervision for life. He’s also supposed to pay $41,000 in restitution, the release said.
The Department of Justice release did not say which websites Clark purchased the pornography on, only that it was on a Darknet site.
This was discovered through the Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative created to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
