Police accuse man of shooting and killing his roommate in Myrtle Beach apartment. What we know

Myrtle Beach Police arrested a man after he allegedly shot and killed his roommate earlier this month.

Leon East, 28, of Myrtle Beach, was arrested for murder and possession of a deadly weapon on Nov. 15. He is currently being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.

Myrtle Beach Police accused East of shooting Rictavio Thompson, 24, multiple times on Nov. 4, according to the police reports. Thompson died on the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, said Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

On Nov. 4, police were called to Willow Run Apartments, 2000 Greens Blvd., about a weapons discharge. When officers arrived, they found East crouched over a body on the second floor. Police ordered East and the four witnesses to come down to the ground floor.

East had a gunshot wound to his torso and received care from EMS. When police searched the apartment, they found Thompson, who is from the Bahamas, dead.

It’s unclear what lead up to the shooting that hurt East and killed Thompson.
