Myrtle Beach Police arrested a man after he allegedly swung a machete at ice cream shop workers at Broadway at the Beach.

Michael Odom, 53, was arrested on Nov. 8, after a disturbance at Sweet Molly’s Creamery, 1205 Celebrity Circle Unit 145, according to the incident report.

Odom allegedly caused a disturbance at Sweet Molly’s, causing employees to call security to detain him while waiting for police to arrive and to charge him with trespassing. After being informed of this, Odom pulled a machete out of a clear tube and began swinging it at employees and making a jab motion toward a worker before running off on foot.

An employee began chasing him in a golf cart and caught up to him near 21st Avenue North. The employee blocked Odom’s path, so Odom again pulled out the machete and began waving it around before running across 21st Avenue.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police found him at the Pelicans’ Stadium, where he had thrown the machete over the back fence before officer’s arrived.

Odom was arrested for two charges of first-degree assault. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $300,000 bail.
