Myrtle Beach attempted murder suspect arrested in Union County
A man wanted for attempted murder in Myrtle Beach was arrested Tuesday in Union County, the Union County Sheriff's Office said.
Waylon Wesley Waldrop, 21, of Union, was arrested on an attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime charge Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff David Taylor said.
Waldrop was wanted by Myrtle Beach police after an incident on July 18 around 10:30 p.m. at Chapin Park in Myrtle Beach, Taylor said. Myrtle Beach police obtained an arrest warrant for Waldrop on July 24 and informed Union County police that the suspect could be back in the Union area.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Fugitive Task Force and Union County Sheriff’s Office located Waldrop on 2959 Santuc-Carlisle Hwy. around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Waldrop was taken into custody without incident, according to the police report.
Waldrop led officers to his car – a 2007 Chevy Impala – where police found a handgun under the spare tire in the trunk and a spent shell casing in the trunk. Police also found two shell casings under the driver’s seat, the report said.
Waldrop was taken to the Union County jail where he remains in custody awaiting Myrtle Beach police to transport him to their facility. Lt. Joey Crosby, with Myrtle Beach police, said Waldrop has not been booked into the Myrtle Beach jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
