Update: body found woods in Murrells Inlet, SC area. How long was the person there?

A Murrells Inlet man found a dead body Tuesday morning near a former mobile home site located off S.C. Highway 17, he told The Sun News.

Glen Todd said he recently moved his mobile home from a spot along Wesley Road near S.C. 17 and came back on Sept. 24 around 11:30 a.m. to retrieve tools he thought he had forgotten there. When he got to the property, he said he found a campsite and a dead body.

The person, who looked like they had been there for awhile, appeared to be sleeping, Todd said. He called the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office who had officers on the scene on around 12:30 p.m. The coroner’s office is working to identify the person as well.

The person, who has not been identified, appeared to have been living in the area before their death, said Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway. The body had likely been there for up to several weeks. An autopsy will be performed in the coming weeks

“Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is investigating human remains discovered in a wooded area off Wesley Road in the Murrells Inlet area,” said Jason Lesley, spokesperson for the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, in a press release.

“It’s sad,” Todd said. He hopes the family of the deceased is able to learn what happened to them.
