Myrtle Beach area woman found dead in home after not seen for days. Man accused in death

File

A 74-year-old woman found dead in her Myrtle Beach area home was shot, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Wanda Lowry was found in her home on Breakers Drive and was last known to be alive on Sept. 11, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in an email.

It is believed she was shot on Sept. 12 and died as a result of the shooting, Willard said.

Horry County Police responded to the woman’s address on Sept. 20 for a welfare check as she had not been seen for a few days, according to a police report. Property management let police into the woman’s home.

Morgan Joseph Folta, 29, has been charged with murder in her death.

Folta was charged after he made statements to staff at the Lighthouse Behavioral Hospital in Conway about shooting her. The hospital provides treatment programs for people suffering from mental illness, an emotional crisis or addiction issues.

An arrest warrant said that Folta shot Lowry in the head.

It is unclear what the relationship is between the two.

Folta remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
