Update: SC woman dies in early morning shooting in Horry County. Man arrested for murder
An early morning shooting Tuesday in the Loris area has left one person dead, according to an Horry County Police report.
Tyronda Bellamy, 43, was shot in her home and died at the scene, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Kenyarta Trayeli Smith, 33, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime for the shooting. He remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
Police responded to a shooting about 5:30 a.m. on Alice Drive outside of Loris.
Once officers arrived at the home, they found the victim deceased in the back bedroom, a police report said. The victim had a gunshot wound.
EMS that arrived on the scene confirmed that the victim was dead, the report said.
Smith told police that he squeezed the trigger of a 9mm gun several times, shooting Bellamy, after they were in a verbal argument, according to an arrest warrant. Bellamy’s injuries indicated she was shot from behind.
Bellamy was Smith’s girlfriend, and they had lived together for eight years, the warrant said.
Smith was not permitted to own a handgun because of his past criminal history, the warrant said.
