A Longs resident allegedly shot at a police officer and a house after an unsuccessful burglary, according to Horry County Police reports.

John Earl Wilson, 57, was arrested on Sept. 13 for first-degree burglary, four counts of attempted murder and malicious injury to property. He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.

On Sept. 12 around 9 p.m., police were called to Shady Lane in the Longs area after shots were fired, the reports said.

Wilson is accused of trying to break into a Shady Lane home by breaking a window, the report said. When that didn’t work, he shot at the house with a rifle. There were four people inside at the time.

When police arrived, Wilson also shot at the officer and ended up hitting a police vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident.
