SC woman accused of choking teen to unconsciousness, slamming head against washing machine
A Conway woman was arrested after allegedly punching and choking a 15-year-old to the point of unconsciousness.
Daveanna Michelle Huggins, 34, was charged by Conway Police with cruelty to children after an incident that occurred on Sept. 8 at a home on Duckett Street, according to an arrest warrant.
The teen told police that she went with a friend to visit her grandmother. Huggins also lives at her grandmother’s home.
The grandmother later left with her boyfriend. Huggins had been drinking heavily and began yelling at the victim’s friend, according to a police report.
The victim told Huggins to stop drinking and not to yell at her friend. Huggins then told the victim to not tell her what to do because “she is grown,” the report said.
The victim then told Huggins that she wasn’t acting grown, to which Huggins then got up and began to choke the teen, the report said. The victim lost consciousness and when she once again became alert, Huggins allegedly slammed her to the floor and punched her face twice.
Huggins then drug the victim into the laundry room and slammed her head against the washing machine three times and then dug her fingernails into her face, scratching her, the report said.
The victim then called her grandmother to come pick her up. When her grandmother arrived, Huggins allegedly began to fight with the grandmother, the report said.
When police arrived, the victim had injuries from the incident.
It is unclear if there is any relation between Huggins and the teen.
Huggins was arrested on Sept. 12 and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
