Two die in Myrtle Beach, SC after alleged drunk driver hits vehicle. Coroner names victims

An alleged drunk driver was arrested three months after a crash that killed two people, according to Myrtle Beach Police records.

On June 9 at the intersection of U.S. 501 and Seaboard Street, Gabriel Hernandez Mejia, 31, ran a red light while driving a pickup truck and hit a vehicle, according to police. He had a BAC of .11 at the time. The legal limit is .08.

Hernandez Mejia was arrested on Sept. 9 for two counts of drunk driving resulting in death, according to online records. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $2 million bail.

Thanh Nguyen, 27, died on June 9 from blunt traumatic injuries at the Grand Strand Medical Center, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Ha Quang, 37, died nearly two weeks later on June 22 from injuries related to the crash. Both lived in Myrtle Beach, Willard said.
