A local man has been accused of shooting at tractor trailer during a road rage incident, with a bullet hitting and entering the truck near the driver, according to Horry County Police records.

Simon Boyd, 36, of Loris, was arrested on Aug. 9 for attempted murder, among other charges. It is unclear what led to the shooting, but the victim told police they were driving on U.S. 501 around 8:45 a.m. on Friday when the shooting happened.

The victim told police that while driving, Boyd threateningly held his gun out the window of his car before shooting the firearm. A bullet struck the trailer, the police reports said. Boyd continued following the semi closely while the victim attempted to stop Boyd from getting closer.

Boyd was able to drive to the side of the truck and shot again. The bullet hit the hydraulic fluid tank, which sat near the driver. In total, the victim told police Boyd fired around five to six shots.

The victim called dispatch while driving and informed them of what was going on in real time. Police pulled Boyd over at a gas station when they saw his truck matched the description of the shooter’s. The victim confirmed that was the correct vehicle. Police found methamphetamine, a scale and several marijuana roaches inside the pickup, the report said.

Horry County charged Boyd with attempted murder, two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a dwelling and trafficking crack.

He has a $20,000 bail for four of his charges but bail was not set for attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
