The mother of a 5-year-old girl who died after drowning at Myrtle Beach resort was at the bar while her child was in the pool, according to Myrtle Beach Police reports.

Annalise Baker, of Pineville, South Carolina was pulled out of the pool at Sea Crest Resort, 803 South Ocean Blvd., while drowning around 7 p.m. on June 22, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. She was brought to the Grand Strand Medical Center where she died the morning of June 23.

Baker’s mother, Alyse Wike, left the child in the 1-foot deep pool and went to the Tiki Bar on property, the arrest warrant said. While Wike was at the bar, Baker went into the bigger pool, where she stayed for nine minutes until a bystander pulled her out.

Wike was arrested on July 29 for unlawful child neglect, Myrtle Beach Police reports show. The 35-year-old is currently being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail with a $10,000 bail, according to court records.

Myrtle Beach Police are investigating.

There have been a total of five child deaths from drownings in the Myrtle Beach area this summer. All have happened at hotels or resorts, with three happening over the Fourth of July weekend.
