More than $1,500 stolen after victim struck with gun during armed robbery in Myrtle Beach

Three men were arrested for stealing over $1,500 during an armed robbery in downtown Myrtle Beach near the Boardwalk, according to Myrtle Beach Police reports.

Chazman Wells, Laquan Whitaker and Quinzell Whitaker were arrested on July 21 for armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Horry County booking. Quinzell was also charged with marijuana possession.

The victim flagged down a Myrtle Beach Police officer around Sugar Twist Ice Cream, 706 N. Ocean Blvd., to say he had been beaten and robbed early Sunday morning. The suspects allegedly hit the victim in the back of the head with a pistol and stole around $1,500 and a $20 wallet, the report said.

The trio was found and arrested in the area later that morning. Laquan, 30, and Quinzell, 23, are being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Laquan has a $25,000 bail and Quinzell is being held without bail.

The same night, there was a shooting near 16th Avenue North that killed a 16-year-old and a stabbing at The Flock Bar and Grill.
