Update: Distraught children sought help for two women at Myrtle Beach, SC hotel
Two women have been arrested after children sought help for them at a Myrtle Beach hotel, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.
Jennifer Lynn Hutchins, 37, and Kaylee Nicole Vanoster, 29, were arrested July 9, 2024, for unlawfully placing a child at risk of, cause harm or willfully abandon the child.
Hutchins is the mother to at least one of the children, according to the report. It is unclear if any of the children were Vanoster’s. It appears from the report that there were five children in the hotel room.
The family members were on vacation in Myrtle Beach, according to the report.
Police responded at 2:15 a.m. to the Bermuda Sands Hotel, 104 N. Ocean Blvd., in reference to a child neglect incident. A person told police that Hutchins’ children were attempting to seek help for their “grossly intoxicated and unresponsive parent,” according to an arrest warrant.
Hutchins’ 9-year-old daughter was unable to care for herself without adult supervision, the warrant said.
A police report said the two women were found unresponsive in the room. A bystander informed the hotel front desk of the situation after the children knocked on their door in attempt to get help for the women.
When police knocked on the door, all five children came to the door and appeared upset and distraught, the report said. The children told police that the two women “were not waking up” and “needed help.”
The children told police that they saw both women consume an unknown substance from a pink bag, stating that this has happened before.
Hutchins and Vanoster were taken to Grand Strand Medical Hospital for medical attention. When police searched the room, they found seven empty THC gummy packages. The packages contained 80 gummies, which contain 10 to 25 milligrams of THC per dose, the warrant said.
