Man breaks into apartment, chokes a woman while sleeping in Myrtle Beach, SC, police say

Myrtle Beach Police arrested a man after he broke into an apartment, climbed on top of a woman and began choking her, according to Myrtle Beach arrest warrants.

Edgar Cruz-Velasco, 45, was arrested on June 30 for first-degree assault and battery, first-degree burglary, identity fraud and kidnapping. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $250,000 bond.

Cruz-Velasco allegedly entered an apartment on Cedar Street and found the victim sleeping in her bed in the downstairs portion of the home. He then climbed on top of her, choked her and groped her breast and legs, an arrest warrant said.

A witness then came down and saw Cruz-Velasco on the victim. Police found him in possession of a Honduran passport and ID that did not belong to him.
