Update: Road rage leads to deadly shooting on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, police say
Myrtle Beach police are investigating a shooting along North Ocean Boulevard that left one person dead.
Cedric Reddick, 31, of Columbia, South Carolina, died at the scene of multiple traumatic gunshot injuries, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
Police responded to the shooting about 10:49 p.m. Saturday in the area of 23rd Avenue and North Ocean Boulevard. One person was arrested, according to a text from Cpl. Chris Starling with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Anthony Maurice Garner, 44, of Albemarle, North Carolina, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Starling said.
Garner was involved in a verbal altercation with an associate of the victim, stemming from a road rage incident, according to an arrest warrant. Garner was allegedly hit in the face by the associate. Reddick approached and tried to mediate the situation. However, the verbal altercation continued, the warrant said.
Garner then went to his vehicle and retrieved a gun from the console, the warrant said. Garner then allegedly fired his weapon, fatally striking Reddick, the arrest warrant said.
Multiple people were detained following the shooting, according to a Facebook post by police.
The shooting comes during the busy Memorial Day weekend, in which thousands of people come to the Myrtle Beach area, including the annual Atlantic Beach Bike Fest.
