Myrtle Beach police investigate report of two bicyclists being assaulted by Camaro driver

Two men riding bicycles early Sunday along Ocean Boulevard told Myrtle Beach police a man in a vehicle tried to run them over and accused them of robbing him, according to a police report.

The victims, ages 22 and 25, told officers that about 3 a.m. Sunday in the area of 28th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard they were riding their bicycles on the way home from work when they saw a silver convertible Chevrolet Camaro idling in the roadway, police said.

The victim said they rode by the car and the driver accused them of robbing him and began to chase them, according to the report. The younger victim was hit by the car and it nearly hit some witnesses in the area.

The victim refused EMS treatment, but did suffer minor injuries, according to the report. Witnesses confirmed what the victims said about the vehicle idling in the street before the driver began to chase the men with the car.

Officers searched for the car in the area, but did not find it or the driver, according to the report. A witness provided police with the license plate, which showed the vehicle was registered in Georgia.
