Update: Man falls to death while climbing down Myrtle Beach hotel where shots were fired

A man died after he fell from the sixth floor of a hotel while escaping after gunshots were fired inside a room at an ocean front hotel and resort in Myrtle Beach, according to police.

Jorge Orellana, 27, died around 6 a.m. on Sunday from massive trauma to his upper body, said Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Police were called to Hotel Blue, 705 South Ocean Blvd., regarding a disturbance around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Officers found the disturbance led to multiple shots being fired into a hotel room on the sixth floor. No one was hurt from the gunfire.

Orellana, of Hendersonville, North Carolina climbed out the window and tried to scale the building to escape but fell before making it to the fifth floor. He was taken to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
